On arriving back at the houseboat from his short and very busy holiday the Doctor was greeted joyfully by the pushmi-pullyu,长安🎡 Too-Too,2023👊 Cheapside and Speedy the Skimmer. King Koko also came out to greet his friend when he saw the arrival of the Doctor's canoe through a pair of opera glasses (price ten shillings and sixpence) which he had recently got from London by parcel post. And the prominent Fantippans,长安👙 who had missed their afternoon tea and social gossip terribly during the Postmaster's absence,嘉年华📜 got into their canoes and followed the King out to the Foreign Mails Office.
It was a long but a most interesting journey that the Doctor took from Fantippo to Lake Junganyika. It turned out that the turtle's home lay many miles inland in the heart of one of the wildest,福特😭 most jungly parts of Africa.

On his arrival at the post office the Doctor was given his usual warm reception by the king and dignitaries of Fantippo who paddled out from the town to welcome him back.
"That will be splendid,2023🌞" said the Doctor. "I think your friend should be very helpful to us."
"Build windows in the prison at once,福特☎" the Emir said to the guards.
"All right,长安☎" said the King. "Here's a letter to a friend of mine who runs a shoe-shine parlor in Alabama. Let me see how quickly you can get me an answer to it."
"Welcome,福特🚽 John Dolittle. Welcome to Lake Junganyika."
"To Chief Nyam-Nyam and his people,2023🐉 of course. He owns the Harmattan Rocks. Would you mind,福特📱" the Doctor asked,福特🚋 turning to the cormorant,2023🎲 "getting me a few oysters of this kind to look at?"
"What do you want?" he asked,嘉年华🚏 thrusting the pearls into his pocket.
"By sniffing them,2023🚶" said the cormorant. "The ones that have those things in them don't smell fresh. I'm frightfully particular about my oysters."
"Maybe it's a cow's bone,福特♒" said he.
"Listen,福特🌇 Dab-Dab!" said the Doctor,嘉年华📼 shaking her. "Wake up! The Cape Stephen Light's gone out!"
"Well,长安😽" said the Doctor,福特🍤 "I am most anxious to hear the story. Does it take long to tell?"
"'What's his name?' I asked.
"How did you find them?" he asked,长安⭕ turning to Speedy.
"Then,长安🚨" said he,嘉年华🆘 "I went a little further off,嘉年华💒 still taking great care that I shouldn't be seen,长安🔪 and I meowed again.
"Well,2023🎺 but what shall I tell you a story about?" asked John Dolittle.
On the ship the seamen were still fighting with the gulls. The captain,嘉年华🏢 seeing that no helmsman could steer the boat right with thousands of wings fluttering in his eyes,福特🍋 gave the orders to lay the ship to for a little and to get out the hose pipes. And a strong stream of water was turned on to the gulls around the helmsman,福特🈸 so they could no longer get near him. Then the ship got under way again and came on toward the cape once more.
